Safe Kids Gwinnett Offers Free Training for Babysitting Instructors

Interested in being a certified instructor for training babysitters? Safe Kids is offering a free training course for five people.

Safe Kids Gwinnett is looking for instructors for its Safe Sitter program and is offering the instructor training course for free for five individuals.

Through the upcoming Safe Sitter program, instructors will be helping students ages 11 and up in many ways: making them a more safe and informed sitter now; and responsible and safety minded educated parents in the future, according to a statement from the organization.

Safe Sitter also prepares students to be home alone, whether they're babysitting or not. In the six-and-a-half hour program, the students also will have the chance to being certified in CPR.

Before the program, though, the Lawrenceville organization is offering training for the students' instructors.

Normally, the instructor training costs $55 for the certification and $10 for contact hours, but Safe Kids is offering to give five people the training for free. The instructors must be committed to teaching four classes a year through Safe Kids, though.

"This is a great way for you to volunteer your time to help the community," said Tania Diaz, the coalition coordinator for Safe Kids Gwinnett.

Similar to the Safe Sitter program, the instructor training is six-and-a-half hours long and includes a CPR instruction. All materials in the babysitter program will be provided by Safe Kids, and the class fee is $18.
