Officer Stops Burglary in Progress at Norcross Home

Two suspects were found in the backyard when Gwinnett police arrived.

Two men have been arrested in connection to a residential burglary in unincorporated Norcross on Friday (March 29).

Julian Ortiz de Pena, a 20-year-old from Norcross, and 23-year-old Johnny Castillo, of Rochester, N.Y., have been charged with residential burglary and criminal damage in the second degree.

Around 12:50 p.m., an officer went to check on a burglary alarm that went off at a home on the 1100 block of Heritage Valley Road near Beaver Ruin Road, according to a news release from Gwinnett County spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter. When the officer arrived, he saw the two suspects in the backyard and noticed the backdoor had been forced open.

The two men attempted to run, but they were stopped by the officer at gunpoint. They were taken into custody, interviewed and then arrested.
