Police Narrow Search in Hit and Run Case

Cobb Police still looking for a hit and run suspect who they believe killed a Norcross man.

A Norcross man was headed south on I-75 on Saturday, Aug. 20, when a motorist suddenly changed lanes, colliding with him and ejecting him from his bike, according to a Cobb County Police release. He died at the scene. The motorist has not been located.

Cobb Police now say that the car is a silver or grey 1986 to 1991 Porsche 944. They recovered evidence at the scene of the crime and also worked with the manufacturer to narrow down the make and model.

Emanuel R. Mitchell, 31, of Norcross was heading south on his 1990 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle. He was near the Windy Hill Road exit around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, when the car believed to be a silver Porsche to his right suddenly switched lanes, according to police.

The silver car collided with the motorcycle, sending Mitchell into a black 2011 Mazda 3 driven by 23-year-old Sonni Smith of Atlanta. Police say that Smith is not expected to face charges in this case.

Witnesses to the crash described the car as a newer Porsche coupe with tinted windows, according to the Cobb Police release. Damage to the vehicle would be on the front, lefthand side of the car.
