Police Hunt for Man in Vehicular Manslaughter Case

A man charged with 1st degree manslaughter checked himself out of the hospital without notifying police.

A fatal car accident on I-85 just inside the Gwinnett County resulted in DUI and 1st degree vehicular manslaughter charges against Brayan Rivera in Dec.

Rivera checked himself out of Gwinnett Medical Center shortly after the incident without contacting the police or turning himself in. Gwinnett Police are now asking for the public’s help identifying the man, who a 23-year-old Hispanic male.

The accident occurred on Dec. 12, 2010 around 3:15 a.m. A 1999 Cadillac Deville, driven by 22-year-old Diana Lovett, was stopped in the HOV lane. The car was struck a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero driven by Rivera.

Both Rivera and Joshua Keith, a passenger in the Cadillac, were taken to the hospital, where Keith later died as a result of injuries from the collision. 

Police describe Rivera as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.  They believe that he may be from either Honduras or El Salvador and that in the past he has worked in construction.
