Norcross Student in Coma After Joy Ride Accident

The driver was arrested on four charges, including driving without a license and a hit and run.

A student is in a coma after a joy ride accident Wednesday.

According to Norcross Police spokesman Cpt. Brian Harr, eight or nine students skipped school that April 25th morning and went car surfing, which involves hanging on the side of a vehicle.

When the car was turning in a Norcross neighborhood off Beaver Ruin Road, it flipped and trapped 16-year-old Alex Mora under the car.

He is currently in a medically induced coma at Gwinnett Medical Center, according to Harr.

The driver, 18-year-old Norcross High student Alejandro Barrita-Rodriguez, was arrested for reckless driving, a hit and run, driving without a license and serious injury by vehicle.
