Norcross PD Investigating Rape, Seeks 911 Caller for Witness, Evidence

Police believe the caller's incident may be connected to another case that allegedly took place in the same room of the Guest Inn in Norcross.

The Norcross Police Department is searching for an anonymous 911 caller alleging she was raped in 2012 because they believe the incident may be related to a similar case in Norcross.

According to Sgt. Bill Grogan of Norcross Police, a man was arrested in early March on charges of rape and aggravated sodomy on a 21-year-old female he met at the Guest Inn off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross. Police have asked for the suspect's identity not to be released.

The victim told police that a week before the incident, the two met at a bar in Atlanta, and they exchanged phone calls. On the night of the incident, they met at the hotel, where the crimes allegedly took place. She reported it to police the next morning.

During the investigation, evidence led police to believe that the incident was not the first time the offender had sexually assaulted a female in the area. Sometime in the later part of last year, a woman anonymously called Gwinnett County Police to report a similar case.

It turns out that both incidents took place in the same room of the same Guest Inn, said Grogan in a press conference Thursday.

"She actually didn't know his name but was able to provide enough information that we could determine it was the same person as earlier this month," added Grogan.

The caller didn't want to come forward at the time, though. Investigators now are searching for her to discuss the incident.

"We'll respect her privacy in the fact that this is a horrible situation for her, but ultimately, our goal is to prevent this man from ever doing it again," Grogan said. "We're begging that she'll come forward now that she can be assured that he's in custody."

Anyone having information regarding this incident should contact the Norcross Police Department at 770-448-2111.

Police asked that the media not publish the suspect's identity in order to eliminate the loss of investigative tools and resources, such as photographic lineups, with any victims who may come forward later. It also will help limit the false reports of crimes.
