A fatal traffic accident occurred on Friday at about 6:45 a.m. in South Forsyth County. Michael Stanley Carter, 53, of Norcross was killed after running a red light and slamming into another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 9 and Pendley Road.
According to Traffic Specialist Investigator Ron Tomblin with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Carter was traveling northbound on Highway 9 in a 2002 silver Honda Accord when he apparently ran a traffic light and struck a 2003 white Mitsubishi Montero.
The Montero, driven by Vickie Cronan, 48, of Cumming was going to make a left-hand turn and travel south onto Highway 9 when she was hit on the front driver's side by Carter.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. Cronan was taken to North Fulton Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. Both were alone in their vehicles.
Tomblin stated that Carter was not wearing a seatbelt and that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are not a factor in the collision.
Traffic was re-directed on Highway 9 for about two hours.
