The sentencing for Nick Jackson Sr., the father of the Norcross teen who was slain in their home last year, has been delayed to May 23, according to news reports.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that Jackson's sentencing was originally scheduled for last Friday. He had pleaded guilty in February to one count of distributing cocaine.

Jackson, who was arrested in August last year with eight other suspects, faces a minimum 10-year sentence if he's convicted of his drug charge.

A DEA investigation led prosecutors to believe Jackson was involved in a Mexican distributing network for cocaine. The drug distribution allegedly goes back to January 2011, according to a July indictment filed with the U.S. District Court.

Jackson was originally charged with multiple counts of drug trafficking and money laundering, according to the GDP, but because of his guilty plea and cooperation with authorities, his charges were reduced.

Prosecutors believe Jackson's reputation as a drug dealer placed his family in danger and contributed to the killing of his son. In February 2012, Norcross Police said six men went into the home to try to find drug cash and ended up fatally shooting the 15-year-old Norcross High student. Seven suspects have been arrested in the case.
