News Report: Norcross Residents Accused of Stealing Unemployment Benefits

Two Norcross residents are among several others in Gwinnett County recently accused of defrauding the state Department of Labor of thousands of dollars.

According to a Gwinnett Daily Post report, two Norcross residents -- De'Angela Conrad, 32; and Ellaree Gist, 32 -- are being charged with receiving benefits they were not eligible for.

Conrad and Gist are accused of swindling the Department of Labor out of nearly $5,000 and about $2,000 respectively, the Post reports, and arrests warrants have been filed.

Persons who "knowingly collect unemployment insurance benefits based on false or inaccurate information" they provide to the Department of Labor are committing fraud, according to the agency.

Those who commit fraud may face punishment, including repaying the money plus fines, prosecution, jail or prison terms, forfeiting future tax refunds, or losing eligibility for future unemployment benefits.

If anyone becomes aware of such fraud, they are asked to report it to the Georgia Department of Labor.
