Man Steals Bike After Asking for Ride

Inside the Police Reports: The incident occurred at a Sonic in the Norcross area.

A man told police that his mountain bike was stolen last month after he let someone ride his it at a Sonic drive-in in unincorporated Norcross.

The incident started when the man arrived at the 1220 Tech Drive establishment on his bicycle around 2:38 p.m. on a Sunday, according to the Gwinnett Police report.

While the man was ordering his food, another man approached him and asked if he could ride his bike. The owner gave him permission, so the man got on the bike and rode it around the fast food establishment while the owner finished giving his order.

The bicycle rider rode it around the back of Sonic and was never seen again, the owner said. Police observed surveillance video of the incident confirming the story.

The victim told police police that his bicycle has a red stain on the bottom and the front brake has a tear, making it hard to use. He said the sticker on the frame next to the seat also is torn. The report has the bike's worth listed as $130.

As for the suspect, he's described as being a black male who was wearing a blue winter coat without sleeves and gray sweat pants.
