A man who apparently drowned at Sunset Cove on Lake Lanier Tuesday (Sept. 17) afternoon and was believed to be from the Norcross area, was identified as a College Park man. He was identified as Shaquille Marquise Connor-Blunt, 20, of College Park, according to media reports.
Hall County Marine Rescue divers recovered the body of a man, whose age was reported as being in his 20s, in 17 feet of water, according to accessnorthga.com.
Emergency crews were called to the scene about 4 p.m. The man reportedly had entered the water from shore and was swimming with two companions to a boat anchored in Sunset Cove, became exhausted, and disappeared, according to an article on The Republic.
He hadn't been seen for 10 to 15 minutes.
Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell estimated the man had been in the water for about 40 minutes when divers found him. They immediately began resuscitation, but efforts failed and he was pronounced dead, Kimbrell said.
Friends of the man on the scene said he was from the Norcross area and was 20, according to Melissa Cummings, Communications/Outreach Specialist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wildlife Resources Division.
Sunset Cove is a sandy beach area on Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
