Inside the Police Reports: 'I Know My Rights'

A man was arrested for obstruction after being difficult with a Norcross Police officer at Red Roof Inn.

A man was arrested outside the local Red Roof Inn earlier this month after being difficult with a Norcross Police officer.

According to the incident report, authorities reported to a fight between two men that occurred at the 5171 Brook Hollow Pkwy. around 9:15 p.m. on a recent Saturday. The reporting officer saw them walking, with one man bleeding from his left arm and the other walking away from him.

The officer told them both to stop, but only the one who was bleeding complied. The other continued to walk away, and he ran across the street out of the cop's vision.

Police asked for identification from the remaining man, who appeared to be nervous. After the Jefferson resident offered his ID, the officer told him to sit down, but the man refused.

"No," he said, according to the report. "I know my rights."

Another Norcross officer arrived so that they could check for any weapons. One of the officers grabbed the man's left arm and raised it to his head, but the man began to pull away. He continued to do so even when the officer ordered him to place his hands behind his back.

Because he was being difficult, the man with the bleeding arm was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct/obstruction of a law enforcement officer. There's nothing written in the report about catching up with the other man who ran away.
