Inside the Police Reports: Drunk Driver Determined on Finding Phone

One woman who was pulled over on the suspicion of driving under the influence seemed more concerned about finding her phone that getting arrested.

A Gwinnett woman who was pulled over for drunk driving seemed more concerned about finding her phone than being arrested.

According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the 28-year-old woman driving a 1995 Chevy Tahoe was pulled over at the intersection of Live Oak Parkway and Thompson Parkway in the Norcross area after police observed her failing to maintain her lane.

When the officer asked her why she was driving in two lanes, she said that she had dropped her phone. She continued to look for her phone and was hesitant to look at the officer as they continued to talk.

While checking her driving information in the patrol car (her license ended up being suspended, by the way), the officer noticed that the woman had exited her car in the middle turn lane and was trying to find her phone in the road.

With bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the driver told police that she had imbibed two cans of Bud Ice that evening, but her last drink was several hours ago. The officer had detected the smell of alcohol coming from inside the car during their first conversation.

After taking a field sobriety test and scoring a .118 grams of breath alcohol content on the alco sensor, the woman was arrested.

Before being taken away to jail, though, she asked the officer for one last favor: to check her car for her phone.

The cop wasn't able to find the phone, but during the search, the officer located two Bud Ice cans and one of them was open.

She was charged with a DUI, suspended license, failure to maintain lane and open container violation.
