High School Student Found Unconscious in Road

Investigators have now ruled out hit and run in the case, however.

A 17-year-old high school students was found lying unconcious in the roadway, bleeding and with life threatening injuries. Gwinnett Police first drew an obvious conclusion, that he may have been the vicitim of a hit and run, but now believe his injuries don't point to him being struck by a car.

On Sept. 4 around 4:30 a.m., a Gwinnett County Police officer was sent to a domestic call in an unincorporated area of Norcross, on Williams Road near Tug Drive. In the course of that call, the officer found Tsvetomir Petrushev lying in the road alone, according to a Gwinnett County Police release.

Petrushev was bleeding from the head, and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. An Accident Investigation Unit looked into the possibility of hit and run.

"During the course of this investigation the Accident Investigation Unit has concluded that Mr. Petrushev was not struck by a vehicle," Cpl. Edwin Ritter said in the release. The physical evidence did not stack up and the injuries are inconsistent with a hit and run, police now say.

Petrushev is expected to recover fully.
