SWAT Team Called After Drug Deal Goes Bad

Gwinnett police officers respond to reports of fighting, shots fired at an address in unincorporated Norcross.

In an apparent drug deal that turned into a robbery Friday night, Gwinnett police were called to the 1200 block of Willow Brook Ct. in the unincorporated area of Norcross.

Sgt. R.E. Long reported that at approximately 10:55 p.m. Friday, July 20, officers responded to a "call of two men fighting and shots being fired." When police arrived, they found one man who had been bitten by another man in a fight outside of the home and several others involved in the incident.

According to the report, a gunman was thought to be inside the home and police decided to call in a SWAT team before attempting to enter. Police found no one inside, but detectives interviewing witnesses determined it "had been a drug deal turned into a robbery."

Police determined that "four men had arrived to buy drugs and after arriving three of the four men were led inside and promptly assaulted and tied up and robbed at gunpoint," reported Sgt. Long.

Police found one man fighting in the driveway with the fourth man. A handgun was pulled and shots were fired, but no one was struck. The man who had been bitten was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.
