UPDATE: Man Apprehended After Standoff at Norcross Apartments

The Gwinnett Sheriff's SWAT team responded to Wood Chase Apartments on Chase Common Drive off Brook Hollow Parkway.

UPDATED 4:10 P.M. Wednesday, March 28

A Wednesday morning standoff with police at an apartment complex ended with the apprehension of a man who had injured a woman with a knife and threatened a Norcross PD officer before barricading himself in the victim's apartment.

Capt. Brian Harr of Norcross PD reported Larry Anthony Davis was taken into custody without incident at the near Brook Hollow Parkway in the city of Norcross. Davis, who was armed with a knife that had brass knuckles in the handle, had attacked a woman resident before holding up in her apartment, prompting police to call in a SWAT team from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

Davis, who police believe may have been staying in a nearby wooded area for several days, was in the apartment for around two hours before police used gas cannisters to remove him, according to a report by the Gwinnett Daily Post. Capt. Harr said Davis' belongings, including a black ski mask, were recovered.

Harr reported that a Norcross officer responded to a report of a person screaming at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday.

"An individual was able to initially gain entry into an apartment by knocking on the door and announcing he was with maintenance," Harr reported in a media release. "When the female resident opened the door, the man forced his way into the apartment. The man was armed with a knife which had brass knuckles manufactured into the handle. The woman sustained injuries to her face."

According to Harr's report, Norcross PD officer Chris Massey confronted Davis, who was wearing a blood-stained T-shirt as he was coming out of an apartment. He was wielding the knife. A woman, who was later determined to be the victim, ran out of the apartment as Massey confronted Davis. Davis then ran back into the apartment and locked the door.

Norcross officers contained the man in the apartment and the SWAT team was called. Nearby residents were evacuated.

After negotiations were determined to be "potentially deteriorating," the decision was made to force Davis out.

Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.

Police are investigating to see if Davis is linked to other similar crimes within Gwinnett County.
