UPDATE: Gwinnett PD Says No Shooting in Norcross

UPDATE (5:24 p.m.): The Gwinnett County Police Department now believes that the incident that was reported in unincorporated Norcross on Thursday afternoon as a shooting was in fact an accident.

Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith has told Patch that after an investigation by his department and the Medical Examiner's Office, the cause of death of the 45-year-old man found at Forest Vale Way was not by shooting as originally reported, but an accidental fall.

According to Smith, the deceased, identified as Victor Velazquez-Cruz, did have a head injury that initially led witnesses to believe that he had been shot. However, Smith says that no gunshots were reported in the area and no witnesses to any attack were found.

Smith says the incident is not being treated as a homicide at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY (3:24 p.m.): FOX 5 Atlanta has reported that the Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on Forest Vale Way in Norcross.
