Norcross Man Charged in Accident That Killed Woman, Her Unborn Child

The incident happened near Gwinnett Place Mall.

A Norcross man has been jailed in connection with the accident in unincorporated Duluth on Saturday (Dec. 14) that killed a woman and her unborn child, according to police.

Erasmo Carmelino Santos-Ordonez, 30, of a Treehouse Parkway address was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center early Sunday (Dec. 15), according to jail records. Charges are vehicular homicide, feticide by vehicle, failure to yield, and hold for immigration. The immigration charge carries no bond.

Katerin Metina, 19, also of a Treehouse Parkway address in Norcross, and her unborn baby were killed in the accident at Pleasant Hill Road and Venture Drive on Saturday evening, police said. The accident happened when a passenger car driven by Santos-Ordonez collided with a minivan, police said.

The suspect's vehicle was a 1998 Honda Civic. Metina was a front-seat passenger in this vehicle, and her side of the vehicle took most of the impact, police said

The van was a 2001 Ford Econoline. The driver was Miguel Zarate, 43, of a Dallas, Texas, address, according to police. Zarate was charged with driving without a license.
