Fire Damages Spalding Drive Townhome

No one was injured in the Wednesday afternoon blaze that damaged the second floor of one home.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday the Gwinnett Fire Department's No. 4 station reponded to a call of a fire in a townhome located at 6203 Spalding Drive.Β

When firefighters arrived they found a fire had broken out on the second floor of the residence. Capt. Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett Fire Department, said the fire caused moderate damage to two rooms and extended into the hallway, before it was brought under control. Β

"The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and may have originated near an electrical outlet in an upstairs bedroom," said Rutledge. "The fire sent smoke throughout the townhome unit."

One person was home at the time but escaped unharmed. Firefighers had the blaze under control within a half hour and there was no damage to neighboring townhomes. The townhomes are located near the intersection of Frank Neely Road and Spalding Drive.
