Over the Thanksgiving holiday, 15 people died in traffic accidents, according to the Georgia State Patrol website. Last year, the overall fatalities was 13 for the same travel period from Wednesday at 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
. Other areas reporting fatal crashes include Cartersville, Blue Ridge, Toccoa, Columbus, Forsyth, Villa Rica, Richmond and Sylvania.
Despite the increased fatalities, the number of crashes and injuries were actually down from the previous year, according to the data. In 2010, the State Patrol reported 437 crashes and 397 injuries. This year, those numbers are 434 and 247 respectively.
