Driver Crashes Through Peachtree Corners Store Front

A car drove into the front of A & Y Gold Buyers in Peachtree Corners and caused major damage to the store.

Early Friday morning a man drove his vehicle into the storefront of in Peachtree Corners, crashing throught the brick front and large plate glass window.

The car was wedged into the small store front and the driver was not able to get out on his own. Gwinnett firefighters and paramedics arrived shortly after 8 a.m. to assist in removing him from his vehicle.

"The vehicle struck the outside of the building and continued into the building until it came to a rest half way inside the structure," said Gwinnett fire spokesman Eric Eberly.

The man, who has not been identified, was "evaluated by GCFES paramedics and then transported to Gwinnett Medical in Lawrenceville for evaluation of minor injuries," said Eberly.

The store was littered with brick and broken glass. An upholstered chair had been shoved back into the back wall creating a large hole in the drywall.

Apparently even a gaping hole didn't cause the business to close for the day. When Patch arrived shortly after noon, a clerk was carefully examining several gold items for a customer while he stood in the store amid broken glass and brick that covered the floor of the small store.

A & Y Gold Buyers is located in the Holcomb Shopping Center on the corner of Holcomb Bridge Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

It was believed that the driver suffered from a medical condition which may have caused the accident.

No further information on the driver of the vehicle was available.
