Dead Body Found on I-85 in Norcross Area

Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on the interstate between Pleasantdale Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 85 North between Pleasantdale Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, a Corrections Work Detail was cleaning debris off Dawson Boulevard and Graves Road when they discovered a dead body. The body was discovered next to a concrete barrier near a small ravine and could not be seen off the interstate, according to a news release from Gwinnett County spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

The body was identified as 24-year-old Leviticus D. Charleston, of Stone Mountain.

At 10:11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, Gwinnett County Police received calls regarding a male walking northbound on I-85 along the center concrete median and walking into traffic in between Pleasendale Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Another caller stated that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in that area. Gwinnett County Police and the Fire Department were dispatched to the area and searched the area but nothing was found at the time.

Based on the clothing and physical description along with decomposition, investigators believe that Charleston died on scene from the injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle Jan. 11.

Investigators have spoken with witnesses from that day and are looking for anyone else that can provide additional information leading to the identity of the driver and vehicle that struck Charleston, as well as any other information regarding the accident.
