Crack Arrest at America's Best Hotel, a Location 'Known for Drugs and Prostitution'

A woman was found to be in possession of crack at a hotel that was singled out for illegal activity.

A woman was arrested at the America’s Best Inn and Suites on Tuesday when she was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, according to a Gwinnett Police Department report.

Cecilia Brown, 24, was observed by officer T.A. Schaefer taking money from a man sitting in a car outside the hotel at 6045 Oakbrook Parkway in an unicorporated area of Norcross near I-85. The officer was on a routine patrol and stopped to talk to them. He described the area as “a location…known for drugs and prostitution” in his write up.

Brown told the officer that she was asking for change for the vending machine.

Schaefer noted in his report that Brown was “very nervous and kept walking away,” so he asked her if she had used any crack cocaine. The women said she had the night before, according to the report, but refused to let her bag be searched, saying that personal items were inside.

Eventually the officer searched the purse, finding “a clear pipe with Brillo material and white powdery residue and small white rocks, which based on my training and experience I believed to be crack cocaine,” the report stated. Brown said she bought the crack from the Motel 6 that morning for $5.

The substance later tested positive. Brown was arrested and transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
