Bomb Threat Made to Check Cashing Business

A bomb threat-attempted robbery was reported at Universal Check Cashing earlier this month in the city of Norcross.

No injuries were reported and nothing was reported taken.

According to the Norcross Police report, around 8:38 p.m. on Feb. 1 a woman came into the 6367 Jimmy Carter Boulevard store.

Walking around until the last customer left, the woman retrieved a piece of paper and began to write on it. The employee working the store, 24, told police that the woman came up to her window and displayed the note, which read, "If you don't give me $5,000 I will blow the place up, I have a grenade."

The employee said the suspect then went to another window and placed an unknown item underneath it. The suspect suddenly appeared to be nervous and left the business, running through the parking lot at Carter Crossing.

Police were able to observe video surveillance footage of the incident. The suspect appeared to be a short black female wearing dark jeans, a blue shirt, a leather jacket, and a blue or gray ski cap.

The report says the "unknown item" the suspect left ended up being a headlight wiring harness.

The harness was photographed and taken into evidence.
