Body of Missing Man Found

Philip J. Gabilondo had been missing since April 16; he was found on the banks of the Yellow River.

A 23-year-old Lilburn man who apparently had been missing since April 16, was found dead on the banks of the Yellow River near Lawrenceville Sunday morning, according to Gwinnett Police.

The body of Philip J. Gabilondo of 3745 Tamer Lane in Lilburn, was found by Gwinnett Police around 11:30 a.m. Sunday behind the property at 3567 Vinyard Way in Lawrenceville. The cause of death is not known and no foul play is suspected, according to Det. J.R. Flanagan of the Gwinnett Police Public Information Office.

Gabilondo was the son of Lilburn Patch columnist Pat Gabilondo. The family preferred not to comment at this time.

Gabilondo was last seen leaving his home on April 10, and was reported missing by his family on April 16. Det. Flanagan reported that the family had heard that Gabilondo might have been seen recently headed on foot toward the Yellow River. After learning of this, the family found Gabilondo’s glasses in the woods nearby, and Gwinnett Police was contact to assist in the search, according to Det. Flanagan’s report. 

Police, with the assistance of the Gwinnett County Fire Department's swift water rescue unit, conducted a search of the woods and river.
