A Lithonia man told police that two men attempted to come inside his room and rob him while staying at a in unincorporated Norcross.
The man, 18 of Lithonia, reported to Gwinnett County police that he had been staying at the Motel 6 at 6015 Oakbrook Parkway for about a week. On March 18 around 5:45 a.m., he was sleeping when he heard someone banging on the door, according to the police report.
He opened the curtains and saw two unknown men standing outside. When he asked them what they wanted, one of them said to open the door while the other continued to bang on the door.
They also said something about taking his things, he told police.
Both men started kicking the door, so the victim latched the interior lock and attempted to hold the door closed with his body.
The door frame eventually broke, but the door itself didn't open all the way due to the latch. The victim yelled that he was calling the police, and the two suspects immediately left in a silver passenger car, which was driven by a woman.
Police found a silver car in the parking lot with one woman and one man inside, but the victim said he was unsure if they were the suspects.
The Gwinnett officer also spoke with the front desk clerk, who originally placed the call to authorities. She said that she called police because the victim had called her from his room and said someone was trying to break into the room. The way both parties were talking, she said, made it sound like they knew each other.
Additionally, the victim was hesistant when he agreed to press charges if the suspects were caught. He told police that he didn't know the suspects and didn't know why he was targeted.
He remembered a few details on the suspects, though: the two men looked around the age of 23, and one of them was wearing all black and had "twists" or dreadlocks in his hair. He didn't recall details on the second man, but the female driver was light-skinned, he told police.
The previous week, another armed robbery was reported involving Motel 6. A man had been outside the hotel when three men in a burgundy Mercury asked him if he needed a ride. He took the offer, and when they approached the Red Roof Inn near Brook Hollow Parkway, one of them pulled a gun on him and demanded his wallet. He gave him his wallet and the gunman told him to get out of the car. They drove away.
