Assisted Living Facility Without Power After a Pole Was Hit

Emergency crews restored power, but facility was in the dark for hours.

Updated 6 p.m. All power has been restored and the intersection is functioning.

Power was cut off at an assisted living facility at the corner of Lawrenceville St and Buford Hwy after a tanker truck clipped a power pole nearby.

Lawrenceville St was closed from the facility’s driveway to Buford Hwy. Electricity crews and the Norcross Police were both on the scene, and the intersection was reopened around 6 p.m.

The facility's owner Joel Addison said everyone was fine inside, though they’ve been without power for several hours. He picked up Chick-fil-A sandwiches for the people in the facility to eat, and said their only complaint was that it was too hot inside.

Captain Tommy Rutledge said that the truck hit the pole when trying to turn into the back alley of the nearby shopping center. The pole was snapped in half, then landed next to the truck, causing the power lines to dip down to dangerously low level.
