Norcross Car Show Is This Saturday

More than 300 cars are expected to flood the streets of downtown.

It's that time of year again for vintage Fords, mint-condition motorcycles and other classic cars to flood the streets of downtown.

This Saturday is reserved for the 15th annual Norcross Car show, an event that brings in thousands of people from all over the metro area to drool over a display of 300-plus vehicles.

Every inch of downtown will be covered with one-of-a-kind cars from practically every era since the invention of the car.

There's going to be other activities besides the main attraction, too, so don't worry if you're not a car lover. A silent auction, tasty food and a bake sale will be available, and old-time music will be playing to place everyone back in time.

Especially noteworthy for this year's show are the raffle prizes. For a $5 raffle ticket, attendees have a chance to win a Primo Grill worth $1,700 and also a completely finished 350 Chevrolet motor donated by Nash Chevrolet in Snellville.

The purpose of the event is more than just showing off pretty and shiny cars, though. Run by Norcross native Dodger DeLeon and his wife, Liz DeLeon, all funds from the show for medical students.

"It's a lot of hard work and dedication to doing [the car show], but it's a good feeling when it's over with because you can help these people," said Liz DeLeon.

For the 2011 show, the event brought in more than 10,000 people, so it's recommended to take the new shuttle service this year. The Hilton Atlanta Northeast hotel, located at 5993 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., is offering its bus service to patrons at no cost during the show, and you can park there, too.

The Norcross Car Show is this Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic downtown. If you're interested in showing your car or volunteering, contact contact Dodger and Liz DeLeon at 770-448-2664 and lizanddodger@bellsouth.net.
