Norcross Weekend Planner: Memorial Day Weekend Edition

Don't have anything planned for Memorial weekend? Check out these events:

On Friday, catch the first show of the Norcross Summer Concert Series with Terry Lee & The GT's. The band will be rocking covers and tributes from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Thrasher Park. Bring a blanket and a lawn chair, along with some food and enjoy the music. Also, don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item to help the Norcross Cooperative Ministry. The annual Strawberry Stroll & 5K returns Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Thrasher Park for its third year. The event, which is organized by Norcross-based company RockTenn, aims to benefit KingdomKids, a local nonprofit that grants wishes (similar to the Make-A-Wish Foundation) to children and families battling anything from leukemia to physical abuse. Be sure to not only race in the 5K and fun run, but check out the vendor fair filled with local artisans, craftsmen, vendors and community members. Locally grown strawberries also will be for sale and the downtown shops and restaurants will have fruity treats.

In true Memorial Day spirit, Norcross is hosting a free performance by the Greater Atlanta Christian School jazz band on Monday. Similar to the Summer Concert Series, guests are welcome to bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic to the Thrasher Park event from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Lastly, if you happen to be off Tuesday, too, the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center is showing a free screening of last year's "Lincoln" starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The movie starts at 1:30 p.m.
