New Civil Rights Museum to Create 700 Construction Jobs - East Atlanta Patch

Earlier this month, PNC Bank and Invest Atlanta announced $24 million in financing to fund Phase I construction of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta's Downtown.

This first phase of the project is expected to create 700 jobs related to the center's construction.

Man Wins $2.5 Million in Georgia Lottery Scratch-off Game - Athens Patch

Donald McColman went into the Jimbo's on Macon Highway recently, grabbed a $100 Million Lucky Fortunes lottery card, and scratched his way to two and a half million dollars.

“I grinned when I shared it with the proprietor,” McColman said in a news release from the Georgia Lottery. “She jumped up and down and gave me a hug. She was excited.”

Employees Accused of Abuse at Cobb Facility for the Mentally Ill - Dallas-Hiram Patch

Top of the Line Residential Care & Development Inc. is an assisted living facility for mentally ill individuals in Powder Springs. But instead of receiving care, one resident got two black eyes, a bruised left jaw, a large red mark on his left temple and a large deep tissue bruise on his left rib cage.

Now four employees are in trouble with the law, accused of using fists, elbows, belts and a baseball bat to restrain the resident against his will.

Incriminating Facebook Post Leads to Man's Arrest - Alpharetta Patch

An Alpharetta man didn't help his theft case much by making a Facebook post with a photo showing him displaying money and saying "I love my job."

Alpharetta police were called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Haynes Bridge Road by a loss prevention officer. The officer said the store had overwhelming evidence that the suspect had taken $3,180 over a 5-day period from a cash register in the store.

Gym Owner Shot During Early Morning Robbery - Buckhead Patch

Atlanta Police say two armed men robbed the owner of a gym as he opened the business on Howell Mill Road near Collier Road around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was shot in the wrist. Kim Jones of the Atlanta Police Department told Patch that the victim was transported to Grady in stable condition.
