How Lightning Can Cause Dangers to Underground Pet Fences

Walton EMC shares information on the risks related to underground pet fences.

In the latest Walton EMC newsletter, an article focused on the dangers of electronic pet fences, especially as it relates to storm activity. It explains that while these fences may be economical and have the benefit of convenience, they can also act as giant lightning rods.

Conner did offer some safety advice to people who have, or are considering, this type of pet enclosure.

"You must use a surge protector at the control unit to protect yourself from that hazard," Conner said in the article. "Installing a protector is as simple as unplugging the control unit, plugging the surge suppressor into the outlet and then plugging the control unit into the surge suppressor.
