First Day of Spring is March 20

Wednesday marks the vernal equinox for 2013.

Considering it's March and we're still wearing sweaters and peacoats, winter seems like it's been around forever.

Luckily, a new season is just around the corner, since the first day of spring is Wednesday, March 20.

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, spring starts with the vernal equinox at 7:02 a.m. that day. The almanac explains the word "equinox" is Latin for "equal night," which is exactly what spring is: The times for day and night are approximately 12 hours long.

Don't do it just yet, though, because it's still a bit nippy out there. Even though we had spring weather last weekend, the National Weather predicts temperatures will be going down instead of up the rest of the week, and we may even see some flakes in Norcross and Gwinnett.

Wednesday's high starts off at 61 degrees with a low of 33 degrees, and Thursday's high is 51 degrees with a 40 percent chance of snow and sleet for the evening with a low of 36 degrees. Friday shares the same chance of snow and sleet with a high of 49 degrees, and there's a chance of showers that night and Saturday.
