Walmart Expected to Bring Positive Impact to Peachtree Corners

A Walmart Neighborhood Market, to be located on Winters Chapel Road in Peachtree Corners, is under construction. It's expected to bring an economic boost to the surrounding community.

Peachtree Corners residents living along the Winters Chapel Road area were pleased to learn earlier this year that retail giant Wal-Mart was planning to build in their neighborhood.

A new Neighborhood Market, a fairly new concept for located on Winters Chapel and Peeler roads.

The business will be a grocery store with a pharmacy, not a full-fledged Walmart Super Center, and will replace the Supermo grocery store that vacated the shopping center nearly two years ago.

"We're honored that Walmart has selected Peachtree Corners to establish its latest grocery store concept," said Council member Phil Sadd, who represents the district where the new business is going in.

"Our residents will benefit from Wal-mart's significant investment to establish a highly professional local business within our city's borders."

The company launched its Neigborhood Market concept in 1998 and plans to expand its grocery store model in the next five years.

The stores are about a quarter of the size of a typical Super Center. The Winters Chapel Road store is expected to provide a positive economic impact to the area.

"In an area of our city where revitalization is needed, this project will bring new business development, economic stability and approximately 75-100 new jobs to our community," said Sadd. "Many residents are excited about being able to drive a short distance - and even walk - to shop for their groceries."

The Neighborhood Market is expected to open in June, 2013.
