Speak Out: Chick-fil-A to Stop Funding Anti-Gay Groups

An LGBT advocacy group in Chicago says the restaurant will cease donations to organizations that oppose gay marriage.

A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy organization in Chicago says Chick-fil-A will cease donations to groups that oppose gay marriage.

In a Sept. 18 press release, The Civil Rights Agenda wrote that Alderman Moreno, the man who led the opposition in Chick-fil-A opening a restaurant in Chicago, "has confirmed that Chick-fil-A will no longer give money to anti-gay organizations and that they have clarified in an internal document that the company will treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation."

The release added that Chick-fil-A has sent an internal memo to franchises and stakeholders that states that as a company, they will “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender."

In July, news broke about Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy speaking publicly against gay marriage, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"whats-your-take-on-the-chick-fil-a-debate"} -->. I'll believe it when I hear it straight from the chicken's mouth! I certainly hope that CFA has decided to stop supporting the repugnant organizations that it currently gives to but that doesn't mean that they now magically believe in marriage equality.

I love Chick-Fill-A sandwiches, but if this is true, I will never patronize them again. Jesus said, in the Sermon on the Mount that "you cannot serve both God and money". By removing their financial support from organizations that defend traditional marriage Chick-Fil-A is saying that those organizations are wrong. And since those organizations are defending the biblical definition of marriage, this is the same as saying that the Bible is wrong. Shame on you, Chick-Fil-A,. You have chosen money over God and, in doing so, you have completely misjudged your core customer base. You are about to lose a lot of money in your quest to make more money.

Here is the official statement from CFA today: “No concessions of any kind were made to satisfy the Alderman in Chicago in order to advance a real estate deal. As it always has, our giving focus will remain on three primary areas: 1. Educating Youth 2. Strengthening Families and Enriching Marriages 3. Supporting our Communities We are committed to serving everyone that walks through our doors with honor, dignity and respect.”

They really didn't say they were going to stop funding the Anti-Gay groups....see Keith's copy of the statement above. However, even if they DID...I still would not support them because they are straddling the fence. You either believe and stand by your convictions or you don't. But you don't change just because you want to open a new restaurant in Chicago! I guess the almighty dollar won out over the almighty God. I don't agree with Dan Cathy NOR his statements, but I find it deplorable that these God-fearing "Christians" are back-peddling now.
