Firenze Offers a Piece of Italy

Each week, Norcross Patch profiles a different business in the area. This week, we talk to Fred Azadi, owner of Firenze Ristorante.

A bit of authentic Italy has come to Peachtree Corners at .

The restaurant, which opened in November on Peachtree Parkway, serves Italian dishes such as Veal Chop alla Parmigiana, a pan fried veal chop in pomodoro sauce with three kinds of cheese; and Agnolotti al Tartufo, a dish of veal, beef, pork, ravioli, truffle shavings, caramelized Vidalia onion and butter parmigiano.

You won’t find chicken parmesan on this menu, as you will in other Italian-American restaurants, says owner Fred Azadi. That’s because the executive chef, Andrea Montobbio, is a native of Capriata d'Orba, in northern Italy. He received his culinary training at the Marco Polo School in Genova and the Guglielmo Marconi School in Camogli. He puts an emphasis on serving traditional dishes and using fresh ingredients.

Azadi is no stranger to the culinary world, either, as the owner of Nemoe’s Tavern &  Grill and the former owner of 13 Italian restaurants in New York. On a recent weekday, he sat down with Patch to talk about Firenze, his latest venture in fine dining.

We try to use the best ingredients, the best products for the best pricing and [we have] friendly service. Our dishes are not Americanized like an average Italian restaurant. [Other restaurants] call themselves Italian, but they are New York Italian. We are authentic Italian.

What is your favorite dish?

I have several: Mezzelune (a butternut squash ravioli with scallops, brown butter and fried sage); Filetto al Peperverde (seared beef filet mignon, brandy and green pepper corn jus and roasted vegetables); and the grilled pizzas.
