The Walmart store will sell groceries and also include a pharmacy, which is a welcome addition to the neighborhood after the old Supremo grocery store closed down suddenly without notice. The boarded up building had been empty for over a year before Walmart announced plans to build a Neighborhood Market.

When the Neighborhood Market was first proposed, construction was originally planned to begin in December 2012 and open in June 2013. Lackey said weather delays were likely the reason why construction had not yet begun.

In unincorporated Norcross, a Walmart is currently being constructed on the corner of Rockbridge Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The store, which is slated to open this summer, will have a garden center, retail space and grocery.
