Norcross Construction Company Cited for Safety Violations

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration says LRG Framing Inc. has six penalties totaling $66,660.

A Norcross-based construction company is being cited on six safety violations at a residential work site in Cumming, according to a press release from the Department of Labor.

The DOL's Occupational Safety and Health administration had cited LRG Framing Inc., located at 5731 Glenn Hollow Court, for $66,660 worth of penalties, which are detailed in the following:

  • One willful violation for allowing employees to work without fall protection, with a penalty of $46,200. An inspector observed employees working at heights up to 30 feet without fall protection.
  • One repeat violation for failing to provide employees with fall protection training, with a penalty of $9,240.
  • And four violations, which include failing to ensure that worker use head protection; removing a damaged equipment, such as electrical cords, from use; and lacking a training program to teach employees how to avoid electrical and fall hazards. These violations total $11,220 in penalties, according to the release.

The company has been cited three times since 2006 for allowing its employees to work without protection from falling, the release says. One of these citations included a connection with a site fatality in East Point in 2007, where the employer was required to take a OSHA safety training course.

“Falls are the leading cause of death for workers in residential construction," said William Fulcher, director of OSHA’s Atlanta-East Area Office, in the press release. "OSHA is committed to educating employers on how to identify hazards and prevent injuries, but they must take responsibility for ensuring that workers have and wear proper equipment at all times."

LRG Framing has 15 business days to comply, request a conference with OSHA's area director or contest the findings before OSHA's Review Commission.
