Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle Speaks in Norcross

The Peachtree Corners Rotary Club was honored to have the lieutenant governor speak at its Monday luncheon meeting held at the Carlyle House.

Georgia's 11th Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle was the guest speaker at the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club luncheon meeting on Monday in Norcross.

Introducing the Lieutenant Governor was Senator Curt Thompson (Dist. 5). "Casey Cagle is committed to education in Georgia. He helped create the E-SPLOST system and has been a champion for the charter school system," said Thompson.

Cagle, a Gainesville native, made history in 2006 by becoming the first Republican elected to the state's second highest office and was re-elected for a second term.

"We as citizens have experienced some economic challenging times recently," said Cagle. "At the state level we've felt it too. This year we've cut $4 billion in state spending but have maintained our AAA rating. Georgia is only one of eight states in the nation to do that."

The return to manufacturing is one of the keys to Georgia's economic growth said Cagle. "Manufacturing is so important, for every one manufacturing job, it takes five to support that job," he said.

Cagle also supports charter schools which he said, "moves away from top down system and gives teachers the flexibility to determine the needs of their students."

The meeting concluded with the recognition of the Rotary Club's student of the month, Norcross Elementary School student Jeylin Jaimes-Ortiz.

A number of guests attended the meeting including Dan Baker of Georgia Commerce Bank.

Guest Rotarians on Monday were:

Richard Steele, Lawrenceville
Lorri Christopher, Dunwoody
Elliott Brack, Gwinnett
