Food Inspections: How Do Norcross Restaurants Score?

See how the area's most-searched-for restaurants score on health inspections.

The Gwinnett County Board of Health posts all health inspections for area restaurants, accommodations and swimming pools or spas on their website. Here is a look at how some popular local eateries (based on the most popular searches on Yelp.com) have stacked up recently:

Zapata: 90, Grade A
On Oct. 20, 2010, Zapata got an “A”—though with a lower score than the previous inspections, which were grades 96 and 100. The inspector sited unwrapped straws being dispensed at the bar (they should be wrapped or covered) and unlabeled containers, which were corrected during the inspection.

Pappadeaux: 94, Grade A
As of Nov. 23, 2010, Pappadeux gets an “A” with point deductions for a dishwasher that didn’t have a hot enough rinse (since adjusted, according to the report).

Wendy’s at 1935 Indian Trail Rd.: 83, Grade B
A January inspection of this Wendy’s branch highlighted some issues, with the chain receiving its third consecutive “B.”  A note was made about cold foods not being kept cold enough. The permit is suspended for this location because this same code was violated three inspections in a row.

Thai Restaurant of Norcross: 90, Grade A
As of Nov. 23, 2010, this popular Thai spot earned its third “A” in a row. Points were docked for utensil usage and food separation.  In April of last year, the restaurant failed to pass, scoring 68, though every grade since has been an “A.”

Burger King at 6137 Buford Hwy: 100, Grade A
A perfect score went to this branch of Burger King on Jan. 19, 2011 with another 100 given out in Sept. of last year.

Dominick’s: 89, Grade B
The Little Italy favorite in Historic Norcross has hovered around 90 for the past two inspections. An ice bin violation was corrected but the food temperatures clocked in right: The Chicken Marsala was served at 186 degrees and the Napolitano sauce was chilled to 40.1 degrees.

Station Café: 93, Grade A
Two violations were noted on the Station Café’s latest report: Lack of the proper sanitizer and mold in the ice bins (since corrected, according to these reports).

Five Guys Burgers and Fries: 98, Grade A
These guys have scored near-perfect on the last three inspections, with only a leaky sink docking points.

Waffle House at 5565 Buford Hwy: 95, Grade A
The Waffle House closest to Historic Norcross made a high score, with notes about a mislabeled sanitizer and broken fan in the bathroom.  This score is up from a 69-point fail in April of last year, with notes about out-of-date mushrooms and milk, among other things.
