City Hall Hosts Blood Drive Thursday

All blood will benefit the American Red Cross.

March is officially American Red Cross Month for the city of Norcross, and nothing fits it more than having a blood drive.

Stop by the second floor of city hall to donate a pint or two of blood Thursday, March 15. They'll be accepting donors from noon to 5 p.m., and everyone also gets free food and a T-shirt.

Drop by the 65 Lawrenceville St. building or schedule an appointment by going to redcrossblood.org and entering code "norcrosspolice".

at the city council meeting last week declaring March as Red Cross Month, and the proclamation was handed to a representative from ARC.

Last year, the American Red Cross responded to 66 disasters and helped 325 people in the Gwinnett area alone. While most of those incidents were home and apartment fires, the ARC also assists in much bigger incidents, such as the tornados in North Georgia earlier this month.

"Given the recent tornados ... it serves as a good reminder that our communities need to be prepared for the unexpected, and the Red Cross is in every community around the country to help those in times of need," said Carisa Hettich, the community relations officer for the American Red Cross.

Also a part of Red Cross Month is a scheduled lunch and learn for the city hall employees and Norcross Police Department.
