'Santaland Diaries' Canceled at Lionheart

The Norcross community theatre says the David Sedaris production restricts non-professional theatres to perform it.

Originally scheduled for its debut Wednesday, "The Santaland Diaries" has been canceled at Lionheart Theatre due to production restrictions.

The Norcross community theatre company released this statement on its website:

"We are sad to announce that we will not be allowed to produce The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris after all. Per the publisher of the play, 'there are restrictions in place that currently limit the availability of this play for non-professional (community theatre) use.' Those of you purchased your tickets on line will be receiveing [sic] your refunds via PayPal soon."

Horizon Theatre, a professional theatre company in Atlanta, still will be performing the production, according to the Lionheart website. The play is a PG-13 comedy about Sedaris' brief, misguided career as a Macy’s elf.

The next production at Lionheart is "The Hobbit," which will debut Thursday, Dec. 13, and run through Sunday, Dec. 16. Lionheart's last production, "Fiddler on the Roof," was a roaring success with sold out shows every night.
