Novelist Stuart Woods to Speak in Norcross

Come and hear best selling author Stuart Woods speak at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center.

Never underestimate the power of a good book.

Authors such as Dickens and Twain, along with a host of children’s adventure books, are just some of those that piqued the interest of Stuart Woods when he was a boy. That love of reading, along with a lively imagination and sought-out writing opportunities, have helped Woods become the writer he is today.

Woods, author of four successful series of thrillers, along with other stand-alone novels, will be speaking and signing books at the , Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Not only do his books frequently make best-seller lists, he’s won awards such as the Edgar Award for his first novel Chiefs in 1981 and the Grand Prix de Litérature Policière for Imperfect Strangers in 1995.

Born in Manchester, Ga., just 82 miles south of Atlanta, Woods attended Georgia public schools and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in sociology. He comments on his website the that he "doesn’t remember why” he choose that degree.

After that came a variety of pursuits, including advertising work both in Atlanta and England, a stint in the National Guard and an adventurous Transatlantic boat race, in which he fared fairly well.

Next it was back to Georgia where Woods began writing fiction in earnest. In March 1981, eight years after he began writing it, Woods published his first, and he considers probably his best novel, Chiefs. Since that time, Woods has published 43 novels, the last 28 of which have been best sellers on the Times hardcover list. His publisher has recently contracted him to begin writing three books a years instead of the two he had been writing.

Woods is an avid pilot, owning his own plane which he uses to transport himself to his three homes in Key West, Maine and New York.

In a brief phone interview with Woods recently he told me that he "loves hearing from people who have read and enjoyed his books.” Why not let him hear from you by coming and meeting him at the “Meet the Author Series” presented by the Gwinnett County public library system?
