Norcross Weekend Planner: Lion's Tales, Plant Sale and More

Check out what Norcross has planned for the weekend of April 19-21.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few things you can do around Norcross.

If you're looking for something to keep the kids busy, get them involved in community acting by letting them audition for "Seussical Jr." at Lionheart Theatre. The Dr. Seuss play will bring characters such as Horton, the Amazing Maizy, the Cat in the Hat and more to life on the Norcross stage. Auditions are open to ages 7 through 17 and will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be five performances total from July 19 through July 21. For more details on what to expect during the audition process, click here.

Before Saturday's auditions, though, don't forget about this month's Lion's Tales, also going on at Lionheart Theatre. From 10 a.m. to noon, children can come and listen to Norcross residents Bill Brown and Jill Swenson tell stories, have a snack and make crafts that they can take home. Admission is $2 per person, with proceeds going to the theatre company and a local charity.

The Norcross Garden Club is hosting its Annual Spring Plant Sale this Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swing by the 33 College St. house and pick up some perennials, herbs, vegetables and more, and talk with one of the city's many master gardeners if you have any questions. There also will be gardening workshops and a raffle. For specific times for the classes, go to the Norcross Patch event page.

On Sunday, the city is having a tree dedication for Jim Scarbrough, the longtime Norcross resident who died in a scooter-automobile accident last June. A tree has been planted in his honor in Thrasher Park near the gazebo, and a plaque will be unveiled at the dedication. A short ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. with light refreshments afterward.
