Norcross Weekend Planner: Football, Middle Earth and More

Norcross happenings aren't limited to just the city this weekend; there are events in Duluth and Atlanta that will be calling locals to, too.

Norcross is taking it down notch this weekend when it comes to happenings on its home turf, but there are a few exciting Norcross-related events happening outside the city.

On Saturday, it's Norcross High's big day at the Georgia Dome for the Football State Championship Game. Since it's the Blue Devils' first time at the championships, it's a pretty big deal. Norcross will be playing against Lovejoy High at 8:30 p.m., and tickets range from $18 to $20. Click here for more information on the event.

Before the big game, though, head to the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth for Norcross Day at the Nutcracker. Enter the promo code "Norcross" when ordering tickets for the 2:30 p.m. matinee Saturday and you'll get up to $8 off your purchase.

Back to the land that is Norcross, the usual Santa photo ops and carriage rides will take place Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in addition to a few other goodies.

On Thursday, musical artist Kate Wright will be performing at 45 South Cafe at 6:30 p.m. She'll be singing her usual folk/blues/jazz songs on her guitar, but she'll throw in some holiday tunes to remind everyone of the season, too. Wright will actually be at the cafe for the next two weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if you can't stop by this week, make sure to catch her next time.

Anna Balkan Designer Jewelry Gallery is having "on the spot" drawings where customers will able to draw savings at random from a hat and receive up to 30 percent off their entire purchase, a store gift card or a prize. The special is going on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Lastly, even though all performances of "The Hobbit" at Lionheart Theatre are sold out, the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien's world can still be appreciated and celebrated without a ticket in Norcross. Renowned fantasy artist Jef Murray will be at Lionheart to sign his newly illustrated Middle Earth 2013 calendars and show posters, which can be purchased on site. The signing will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and right after the show at 3:45 p.m.
