Norcross Weekend Planner: Dare to Dash, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and More

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few things you can do around Norcross.

Lionheart Theatre's latest production of "To Kill a Mockingbird" takes the stage starting Friday. The show is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Harper Lee and is directed by Joanie McElroy. The Norcross High School Foundation is hosting its 8th Annual Gala and Hall of Fame Induction to help raise funds for NHS. The event is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the door of the event at The Fields Club in Riverfield in Peachtree Corners. 

Bright and early Saturday is the annual in Thrasher Park. The race, which starts at 8 a.m., is now in its sixth year and aims to benefit children with rare diseases through the Ainsley Paige Higgins' Dare to Hope Foundation and the Palliative Care Team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

After the race, be sure to check out Family Fun Day, which will take place in the same park with a concert by the Oswald Brothers Band. At 1 p.m., the fun continues down the street in Lillian Webb Park with children's games and activities, a splash pad, and another concert, this time by The Von Grey Sisters.

Registration for the 5K is $25, and the 2K and/or the Family Fun Day is $15. Children ages 12 and under are free. For more details, visit www.daretodash.com.

Also on Saturday is Iron Horse Tavern's first-ever Beerlympics. Have a pint or two while testing your skills at cornhole, a jello shot relay, a tricycle race and more. The event is free and starts at 1 p.m. in the downtown bar.

Lastly, the North Atlanta Trade Center is hosting the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta's Super STEM Expo. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, girls of all ages can explore science, technology, engineering and math through fun and educational activities designed around STEM-based exhibits and workshops. More than a hundred exhibitors are expected for the event. Registration in advance for girl scout members are $12, adults are $7, and it's $22 for non-members.
