How long have you been producing art?

I’ve loved art ever since I was very young and remember playing with my mother’s homemade salt dough and making paper dolls. Growing up, I’ve also enjoyed experimenting with drawing, watercolors, collage, mixed media and photography. I’ve been working with clay now for over four years.

How did you first get started in art?

I first got started with clay several years ago when I was an elementary school media specialist. During an end-of-the-year staff meeting, the teacher presenting had a piece of clay in her hands for a demonstration. I watched her work with it and thought, “Hmmm… I haven’t tried clay before.” That summer I took a hand-building class and was hooked!

Who are your art heroes?

I’ve always loved the work of Georgia O’Keeffe and Henri Matisse. I also love the illustrations of children’s book author and illustrator Eric Carle. When I was a media specialist, I would read his books to the students and just love his pictures created from painted paper collage.

What inspires you?

For many years, I’ve loved quotes and have been inspired by the words of others. I find that many people are also inspired by quotes and really enjoy my plaques and mixed media pieces.

What is your favorite piece in your own collection? Why?

That’s tough--I have several pieces that I love, and I enjoy adding to my collection when I visit art shows and galleries.

Do you have a website?

My website is www.mbwclayartist.com. I’m also on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mbwclayartist.

Where do you live?

Marietta, Ga.

Are you a full-time artist, or do you have another occupation?

I am a full-time artist.

How many times has your art been featured in the Norcross Arts Fest?

This is my third year participating in the Norcross Art Fest. It’s a wonderful show, and I’m so pleased to be a part of it.
