Lady Blue Devil Nia Holloway Amazes on Broadway Stage in 'The Lion King'

A member of Norcross High's 2013 state basketball champs, Nia is now part of the 2013-2014 touring cast of the hit musical "The Lion King."

Nia Holloway is having one busy senior year.

The honorary Norcross High Blue Devil is starring as the youngest actress ever to play "Nala" in the Broadway production of 'The Lion King.'

The 2013-2014 North American tour of "The Lion King" will be making a number of stops, including here in Atlanta in April. Currently, Nia is performing with her troupe in Pittsburgh. Next stop: Dallas in October.

Her rigorous touring schedule is keeping her from physically attending Norcross High, but her mother, Celeste, said that Nia is pushing forward at Gwinnett Online Campus with the help of tutor.

Angie Hembree, Norcross High head girls' basketball coach, said Nia is missed on the team. In 2013, the talented small forward helped lead the team to its state championship.

"We consider Nia a part of our team, and we are so proud of this tremendous opportunity she has and that her dreams are being realized," Hembree said in an email to Norcross Patch.

Despite missing her school friends while touring for "The Lion King," Hembree said that Nia will still walk with her 2014 graduating class in May.

"The show has been an amazing opportunity and experience for her," added her mother, Celeste. "But, music is of course her first love.

"She continues to write and record music while on the road and anticipates releasing her debut album within the next year."

Already, she has debuted "Get Up" on iTunes, as part of the 2011 reality show "Majors and Minors." It "will always hold a special place in her heart as it is the first song that she wrote and released," her mother said.

How does the 17-year-old keep it all in perspective: the new fame, the busy life? Nia took a few minutes off the tour to email Patch, and this is what she said:

"To get from getting overwhelmed I have to take the tour one day at a time. I'm not saying I don't get stressed dealing with the tour, school, and being away from my family and friends, but with there support it helps me focus on my goals that I have while on the rode and enjoying this experience!"

There's certainly more to come from the talented Miss. Holloway. To keep up with her, be sure to check out Nia's website.
