Indie Film Tour Coming to Suwanee

Six screenings will be at the Movie Tavern near I-85 starting in September.

The Suwanee arts scene will add a new wrinkle beginning in September 2012 when a tour of independent films will begin showings that last until April 2013.

City officials, teaming with the Movie Tavern and the Southern Tour of Independent Filmmakers, wiil bring a series of six films to the city, according to Crossroads, the city's official newsletter.

"We're thrilled to be a part of this tour of independent films," said Toni Shrewsbury, the city's special projects coordinator. "The screenings of these films will provide a variety of cultural samplers to our residents."

Suwanee is one of more than 18 communities in eight states  -- and the only one in Gwinnett -- participating in the 2012-13 Southern Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Each of the films will be shown once at the Movie Tavern, located in the Horizon Village shopping center at 2855 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

Screenings will begin at 7 p.m. A question/answer session and reception with filmmakers will follow.

Tickets are $6 for each screening, and will be available on the Movie Tavern website.

The schedule is as follows:

Sept. 17: "Age Of Champions."

Oct. 15: "A Matter Of Taste: Serving Up Paul Liebrandt"

Nov. 5: "Drivers Wanted"

Feb. 18: "Trust: Second Acts in Young Lives"

March 18: "The Misadventures of the Dunderheads"

April 15: "Heart of Stone"
