The Norcross Weekend Planner

The Blossom Festival, Date Night Downtown and a few other things top the list for event must-dos this Friday and Saturday, April 27-28.

Don't have anything planned for the weekend? The city of Norcross has listed a number of Friday and Saturday activities for the whole family.

This Friday, bring the little ones to from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Cities Government Day. At the free event, kids can visit the court room and meet a real judge, see the Norcross Police Department's K-9 unit in action, and meet the PD's wonder dog Charlie, and other good stuff.

Also on Friday is the 's plant sale, as part of the . With everything from perennials to annuals, the College Street location will have a wide variety of plants for sale from noon to 6 p.m. If you're new to gardening or have questions about what you're buying, the ladies of the club will be on hand, too.

Before the Blossom Tour starts Saturday, do a quick one-mile jog or walk at 9:30 a.m. for All Aboard for a Cure, a fundraiser for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. For more information and the register, check out the Children's Healthcare website.

After the exercise, it's back to the Blossom Tour, which will be in full bloom from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out this year's six gardens, as Master Gardener and Patch contributor Julie Foster this week.

The garden club will still have flowers for purchase, and you can also find different plant activities and workshops, including ones on container and vegetable gardening. Kids activities will be available at the club and the Norcross Community Gardens next door, which will also have volunteers beautifying and planting the area during the day. The Little Red Barn on North Peachtree Street will also have a huge art sale with 12 vendors. For more information on the activites, check out the A Place to Imagine website.

From 2:30 to 4:30 in between all the Blossom fun, the will be having a cookout and Beatles-themed live music to open "All You Need is Love," a springtime art exhibit from resident Susie Schklar. She's also unveiling a contemporary and personal painting of the gazebo in .

To end your night off right, the city of Norcross is hosting an open-mic event for its Date Night Downtown at 8 p.m. Saturday at . A national talent scout will be watching, so bring as much skill to the table as you can. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, but bring a receipt from any Saturday purchase at a downtown merchant and get $5 off one ticket.
