Art Fest Named Best Event in Gwinnett

The Convention and Visitor's Bureau tips its hat to the local Fest, collects heaps of supplies for the Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership.

The Gwinnett County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau holds an annual Tourism Awards to highlight the best of the best in Gwinnett County, and the Norcross Art Fest was recognized as the top event this year.

“This juried fine art festival, now showcasing over 170 artists, does a wonderful job of improving Gwinnett’s appeal as a leisure destination, as well as being a arts and cultural showcase,” the Bureau said in an announcement of the 2011 winners.

The awards were announced at the Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 2, which also included a Holiday Book Drive to benefit Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership. The entire hospitality community donated 2,000 new or gently used books, 100 stocking stuffed with school supplies and a $250 Visa Gift Card, courtesy of the local Hilton Atlanta Northeast.

Ranae Heaven of NCSP said in the announcement that she “was amazed and delighted at the support of the hospitality community. This book drive has exceeded our wildest expectations.”

Norcross is no stranger to awards lately. Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson was named Gwinnett's Man of the Year by Gwinnett magazine as well.
